Under the guidance of a selected faculty member, the student has the opportunity to learn the basic skills necessary to contribute to a research effort during the 10-week period. UTMB has 21 departments offering research opportunities for students interested in almost any area of biomedical research. The program is designed to increase the student's motivation to pursue a graduate degree leading to careers in biomedical research. Research opportunities include, but are not restricted to: molecular biology, toxicology, biochemistry, immunology, physiology, virology, genetics, microbiology, pharmacology, and marine biology. The students attend various scientific seminars and journal clubs during the summer.
